Bologna is the capital of Emilia Romagna and the city of students, there are the oldest existing university in Europe, founded in 1088. Also known for culinary tradition. Bologna has given the name to Bolognese sauce, rage alla Bolognese. Walking in the center you will find many ancient houses, there are forerunners of the Bolognese arcades which extend for over 37 km .

     
     
Piazza Nettuno and Neptune Fountain has become the symbol of the city. Piazza Maggiore - Basilica of San Petronio, dedicated to Petronius, a 5th century Bishop of Bologna. The Foundation stone was laid 6/6/1390. Piazza Maggiore - Palazzo del Podesta. In the history it was  Municipal Government Palace. Presently it is Tourist Information Center.

Casa Isolani, formerly Casa Bolognini is a renaissance building attributed to Pagno di Lapo Portigiani da Fisole (1451-1455) The symbol and the most famous building of Bologna are Asineli and Garisenda towers. Originally from the 12th century and belonged to the Asinelli and Garisendi families. The towers are mentioned by Dante in Divine Comedy (Inferno).
