Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Firenze and  in fact it exists since the time of Roman colony when the
piers was by stone and the roadway by wood. Destroyed  by flooding in 1117 it was  completely rebuild in stone. After the terrible flood in Novembre 1333, it was rebuilt for the last time with three very wide spans, planned with room for shops on other side.  In 1591  Ferdinando I  allow the shops only to  the goldsmiths.
