On the right Arno´s banks Pisa takes on a very different character. Piazza dei Cavalieri opens unexpectedly from the narrow streets, the central square with Palazzo dei Cavalieri, covered in graffiti - The seat of Scuola Normale Superiore. In front of the Palazzo you can find statue of Cosimo and the fountain (1596).
On the right side is the Church of S.Stefano dei Cavalieri (1565) and on the left Palazzo dell´Orologio, with two towers. In the tower on the right side Ugolino della Gherardesca was starved to death with his sons and grandsons in 1288 eternalized in Dante's Inferno
