Siena is situated in the center of southern Tuscany.  The origins of Siena is lost in legend. One said that its name is derived from the Gallic tribe of the Senones.  Other that it is Roman origin. The high importance Siena reached in the Middle Ages, and it was precisely this period which has left the most significant marks up-on it.
